According to an announcement made by the KBO office on August 11, Cuevas swept 25 of 30 journalists’ votes and received 23,562 of 392,207 fan votes for a total of 44.40 points, beating out the likes of Noh Si-hwan (Hanwha – 23.54 points) and Koo Ja-uk (Samsung – 9.92 points) to become the first KT player to win the monthly MVP honor in nearly two years after Ko Young-pyo in September 2021.
After returning to Korean soil as a replacement for Bo Schuler, Cuevas went 5-0 with a 0.50 ERA and 37 strikeouts in five starts in August, throwing seven or more innings in all five games and no-hitting in three of them.
Cuevas is now 8-0 on the season and needs just two more wins without a loss to reach the 100 percent winning percentage award, which is given to players with 10 or more wins. The KBO office will award Cuevas $2 million in prize money.
