Pittsburgh Pirates’ Bae Ji-hwan (24) hit his first Major League Baseball (MLB) game-winning triple to lead his team to victory.
Bae started in center field against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday (July 7) at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and went 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
After reaching base on a grounder to third base in the first inning, a grounder to shortstop in the third inning, and a fly ball to center field in the sixth inning, Bae hit a game-winning single in his final at-bat to give Pittsburgh the win.바카라
With the score tied 3-3 and one out in the bottom of the seventh, Bae took a slider from Milwaukee right-hander Elvis Peguero. The 177-mile-per-hour fastball sailed to the center field fence, where Milwaukee’s center fielder made a skewed play to left field, allowing first baseman Jayson Delay to cross home plate with time to spare. Bae sped up to third base. It was Bae’s first big league triple after hitting 18 triples in the minors. Bae also scored on Miguel Andujar’s single up the middle. Pittsburgh went on to win the game 5-4, thanks to Bae’s game-winning triple and wedge.
However, Pittsburgh’s “Pirate Captain” Andrew McCutchen, who was replaced after hitting a double in the fifth inning, was diagnosed with a six-week Achilles’ tendon injury and will miss the rest of the season. McCutchen, who is one home run shy of 300 in his major league career, told MLB.com, “It’s unfortunate that I got an unexpected injury,” adding, “It’s disappointing, but these things can happen. I’ll definitely be back.”
Meanwhile, Toronto Blue Jays’ Hyun-jin Ryu, 36, pitched well in his start against the Oakland Athletics, allowing two runs on five hits (one home run) and five walks with one strikeout in five innings, but the offense went silent as the Blue Jays fell to 2-5 and dropped their second game in three days. Ryu, who started on four days’ rest instead of five for the first time this season, allowed three stolen bases in a game for the first time in his big league career and was replaced by Trevor Richards on defense in the bottom of the sixth inning with the score 1-2.
