Men’s tennis star Hyeon Chung has claimed his first victory since returning from injury at Wimbledon (£44.7 million in prize money), his fifth major in six matches.
The South Korean defeated 먹튀검증 183rd-ranked Dimitar Kuzmanov of Bulgaria 2-1 (6-2 3-6 6-3) in the first round of the men’s singles qualifying event at the All England Club in Wimbledon, England on Saturday (July 26).
Chung, who returned to the court in April after overcoming a nagging back injury but lost five matches in a row, got his first real win on the day and boosted his confidence.
Next up for Chung will be Enzo Cuaco (158th, France), who is coming off a 2-0 (6-4 7-6<7-3>) win over Raul Brancaccio (135th, Italy).
Chung and Cuaco have never met.
At 28, Cuaco is a year older than Chung, and like Chung, he is a right-handed player who has been consistently ranked in the top 200. His highest personal ranking is 153rd.
The second match between Chung and Kuako is expected to take place on the 28th local time.
With two more wins, Chung will reach the Wimbledon main draw for the first time in eight years since 2015.
It will also be his first time competing in the main draw of a major since the 2020 French Open.
Chung made waves at the 2018 Australian Open in singles, defeating Novak Djokovic (Serbia) in the quarterfinals, but he hasn’t played consistently since due to a back injury.
The 2020 French Open was the last singles event he competed in, and after focusing on rehabilitation, he made his comeback in April this year at the Seoul Open Challenger, his first singles event in two years and seven months.
It wasn’t easy to get his first win back.
After the Seoul Open and Busan Open Challengers, Chung was knocked out in the first round of the Challenger event on grass courts in England.
At his most recent event, the Ilkley Trophy Challenger, he felt shoulder pain in the first round of qualifying and had to withdraw midway through the first set, which raised some concerns, but it turned out to be a fluke.

However, in the second set, he made more unforced errors (5-2) than his opponent, and fell behind in winners (6-13).

When his opponent’s last shot hit the net to seal the victory, he raised his hand to the applauding crowd and calmly walked off the court.
After a long hiatus, Chung is currently unranked in singles, but thanks to the Protected Ranking (PR) system, he has been recognized as the 159th ranked player on the qualifying list.
Meanwhile, Hong Seong-chan (197th-ranked Sejong City Hall) lost 0-2 (6-7<4-7> 6-7<7-9>) to Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki (115th) in the first round.
Hong, who made his first major qualifying appearance at this year’s French Open, fell in the first round of qualifying for the second straight tournament.
