The Toronto Blue Jays are in last place in the American League East with a 26-24 record as of Friday. They are 9.5 games behind the first-place Tampa Bay Rays.
At this rate, they’ll have a tough time making the playoffs.
That’s why fans are excited to hear that Hyun-jin Ryu has recently started accompanying the team.
Ryu is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery last year and is expected to return shortly after the All-Star break in July.
Toronto fans are hoping that Ryu will be able to give a boost to a sinking Toronto starting rotation.
Toronto was thought to have a strong starting pitching staff this season 메이저놀이터.
However, the lid has been lifted. Alex Manoa, who was supposed to be the ace, has struggled with a 1-4 record and a 5.15 ERA. His WAR is minus 0.4. He’s a liability for the team.
Second starter Kevin Gausman is 2-3 with a 3.14 ERA.
Third starter Jose Berrios, last year’s ace, hasn’t lived up to expectations, going 4-4 with a 4.22 ERA.
Newly acquired fourth starter Chris Bassitt is 5-3 with a 3.03 ERA. He’s the best of the starters.
The fifth starter, Yusei Kikuchi, is 5-2 with a 4.56 ERA.
He’s been hit hard in recent games. In his start on May 25 against Tampa Bay, he gave up eight runs (five earned) on eight hits in five innings.
With only two out of five pitchers performing at their best, it’s hard to see the team performing well.
This is where Ryu comes in.
When Ryu returns, Kikuchi will most likely go to the bullpen.
