Woo Sang-hyuk (27-Yongin City Hall) had a disappointing performance at the Stockholm Diamond League as he was washed out by heavy rain.
Woo failed to clear 2.16 꽁머니 meters in three attempts during the men’s high jump at the World Athletics Stockholm Diamond League 2023 at the Olympic Stadium in Stockholm, Sweden, on Wednesday (July 3).
The stadium was hit by heavy rain and the men’s high jump was suspended several times on the day.
Woo Sang-hyuk cleared 2m08 and 2m12 before making his first attempt at 2m16, but failed on his first three attempts.
Woo and Fabian Delid (SWE) were two of nine athletes who failed to clear the bar even once. Delid made three attempts at 2.08 meters, all of which hit the bar.
Woo, who leads the World Association of Athletics Federations’ ranking points (1,376) and is tied for first in the world this season (2m33), was unable to overcome the “weather” factor.
In the Diamond League high jump, there is no ranking without a single successful attempt. After failing to set a record in Stockholm, Woo was unable to add any Diamond League points.
With 14 Diamond League points from back-to-back second-place finishes in Doha and Rome-Firenze, Woo missed out on the opportunity to overtake Jubon Harrison (USA – 16 points), who was absent from the competition to prepare for the U.S. National Team Trials.
The top six finishers in the Diamond League qualified for the Final Series in mid-September in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
The poor weather conditions resulted in poor performances across the board.
The winner of the day was Hamish Kerr (NZL), who cleared 2m24. Kerr cleared 2m24 in his second attempt to take the gold medal.
Kerr was followed by Thomas Carmoy (BEL) in second with 2m20 and Andriy Prochenko (UKRA) in third with 2m16.
The highly-anticipated Tokyo 2020 co-gold medalist, 메이저토토 Jean-Marco Tamberi (ITA), finished sixth at 2.12m.
Melwyn Ricke-Holm (IRE), the son of ‘legend’ Stefan Holm, 47, who won gold in the men’s high jump at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, was seventh in his first Diamond League appearance with a jump of 2.08m.
After the Stockholm Diamond League, Woo will now prepare for the 2023 Asian Championships, which kick off in Thailand on June 12.
