The South Korean National Team won a hard-fought victory in its third game of the World Youth Championship.스포츠토토
On Thursday at the Intercontinental Baseball Stadium in Taichung, Taiwan, Team Korea swept Australia 3-0 in the opening round of the 31st World Youth Baseball Championship to take a 2-1 series lead.
However, the team struggled throughout the game. They struggled through the first three innings, recording just one hit against Australia. In fact, by the fourth inning, the Aussies were leading 3-1 in hits.
The frustrating flow of the game was broken in one inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, with the bases loaded, Lee Yul-ye (Gangneung-go), the youngest member of the team’s batting order, hit a bases-loaded triple. The team had scored on five walks and two hits. After Lee Yul-ye’s second hit, the frustrating bats still had their work cut out for them as they failed to record another hit.
In contrast to the worrisome batting lineup, two pitchers combined for a no-hitter on the mound. Starting pitcher Yuk Sun-yeop (Jang Chung-go) allowed five hits in 6 and 2/3 innings, but recorded a whopping eight strikeouts to earn his first win. National team ace Kim Taek-yeon (Incheon High) earned the save with a two-hit, two-strikeout shutout in 2/3 of an inning.
Chinese Taipei surprisingly struggled against the underdog Czech Republic, but all but clinched first place with a 4-1 win, while Japan thrashed Venezuela 10-0. The United States, who are expected to fight for the bronze medal with us, won 6-4 over Panama.
The team will continue the opening round on May 5 at the same venue against Mexico. This match will be the de facto watershed for the Super Round. Mexico, which was initially favored in the world rankings, is coming off a three-game losing streak, with losses to Chinese Taipei, Australia, and Puerto Rico.
